Antarctic Convergence
In scientific terms the Antarctic Convergence is a line encircling Antarctica where cold, northward-flowing Antarctic waters meet and mix with the relatively warmer waters of the sub-Antarctic. My experience of the Antarctic Convergence was on board the Ocean Nova, a 240-ft ship that included 75 people from all over the world who converged on one ship for a 13-day experience of Antarctica. My body of work from this trip is a convergence of a different sort. My earth-science background has led me to take pictures that show the interaction between rock and water. On this trip I had the added elements of snow and ice as well, both a different form of water and rock. From the reflections of the icebergs on the glassy-smooth water to the spectacularly thick glaciers gouging out the incredibly rugged volcanic terrain, the interactions between these four elements define Antarctica.
