Geitlandshraun, Iceland

Had an extra day in Reykjavik and so decided to rent a car with Steve Johnson and another one of the workshop participants so we could head out and see a different part of the country.  We drove up to Thingvallavatn first, where you can stand in one place and step across between the different geologic plates that dissect Iceland.  That was kind of touristy looking, so we turned north on a dirt road and ran across some more great landscape, completely different than what we had seen before.  We even ended up driving up a very steep road right up to the Langjoekull glacier and Steve could finally fulfill his dream of walking on a glacier.  On our way back down we stopped at a place to look over a broad valley and I noticed this layering of the ridges which I thought was very representative of the landscape in Iceland.

After that we drove on over to the north side of the island, just to see what it was like, and were very dissapointed because it was very cloudy and we couldn’t really see much.  We stopped for dinner at a nice little Fillipino restaurant in Borgarnes and then drove back to Reykjavik.  Even thought the car was extremely expensive (~$500 for the day!) it was very nice having the opportunity to spend the day with Steve and talk about things other than photography.  I definitely do not regret having done it!
