About Evan Anderman
Evan Anderman was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and as a child spent a lot of time skiing, hiking, and hunting in the mountains and plains of Colorado and the Western United States. The son of a geologist, Evan often found himself with his dad stopped by the side of the road at the top of a ridge, just to look at the landscape and the rocks around them. This upbringing instilled in Evan a love of the western landscape, not just the grand beauty of the Rocky Mountains, but also the subtle beauty of the region.
This love of the land eventually led Evan to pursue a career in geological engineering as a hydrogeologist. But somehow that wasn’t enough, and in 2005 he gave that up to pursue his passion for landscape photography as a way of getting more in touch with the land around him. Evan is curious about the visual world we are immersed in and he enjoys wandering around looking for scenes that most people pass by, no matter where he may be. Evan’s diverse background as an earth scientist helps to guide his photographic vision of the Western landscape by capturing the subtle interactions between land and water and the intimate details that most people don't notice. With the landscape views he portrays the overall view of an area. The detailed shots focus-in on parts of the landscape, sometimes a feature as large as a hillside and at other times something as small as a single seed head or flower.
Evan’s photographic style has won him critical acclaim. His intimate landscape photographs have been described by Michael Paglia in Landscapes of Colorado as “the most unusual and distinctive” traits of his photography. Evan has also been described as having a “keen sense for a balanced composition” and a “sensitive eye for contrasting and complimentary shades” of color.
