Obscurity Exhibition

Obscurity Exhibition

Opening Friday, March 4th, 2011 6-9 pm
Show Continues Friday, April 1st, 2011, 6-9 pm

Obscurity is the inward exploration of the physicality of light and how it can be bent and shaped through interaction with other media. The result is appealing abstracts that trick the eye and capture the imagination.

While obscurity can be defined as the deficiency or absence of light, it can also be defined as indistinctness. Curvy, mysterious, and sometimes unfocused, the light in these photos create subtle tonal gradations and overlapping forms that alternate across a field. Viewers often bring their own words to these images, perhaps from the dark and obscure recesses of the mind, a Rorschach test of a different form.

The pubic is invited to a reception at his studio/gallery in the Bolt Factory, 209 Kalamath St., Denver, on First Friday April 1st from 6-9 PM.

Visitors to the Art Walk on Santa Fe may take the First Friday shuttle to and from the Bolt Factory, where they can park for free and can visit several additional galleries and artists.

I’ve criss-crossed Colorado in the last few months and from the mountains to the plains I’ve photographed the iconic Colorado. My subjects have included secluded ranches, panoramic plains, majestic windmills, private aspen groves, and golden fields of corn and harvested wheat. This show displays the complex scenery that we love Colorado for. I’m also having a super sale where any unframed matted print in my studio will be sold for $200 each! Just in time for the holidays, you won’t want to miss this sale.

“Fractured Atmosphere” Exhibit at Wynkoop Brewing Company

“Fractured Atmosphere” Exhibit at Wynkoop Brewing Company

Opening Reception Sunday, November 7th, 2010 2-4 pm

A departure from my usual nature photography, this body of work is meant to show that our atmosphere is unfathomably magnificent yet we take it for granted by releasing practically anything into it. The subject of the photographs is the steam clouds generated at various factories around town during very cold weather. I purposefully processed the images to bring a sense of other worldliness to the viewer. As a starting point, the inverted false-color processing brings a depth and richness to the subject, which is then explored in a juxtaposition of alternative interpretations. First, the process of mirroring lends a sometimes organic feel to the images, drawing the viewer in in an exploration of eerily familiar shapes. Alternatively, some of the images are randomly fractured, showing the carefree and disjointed way that we treat our atmosphere, the resulting lines and shapes completely obscuring the very thing that forms the basis of the work. I leave it to the viewer to decide which interpretation best represents the subject.

The exhibit is on the second floor in the pool hall, so please stop by, grab a beer, play some pool and look at my pictures!
